Anais — A Matter of “Choice”

It irks me that even those of us that accept the industry as a moral and legally justifiable means of making a living still want to draw lines of “acceptable” means of approach. When I signed Juli Ashton at 24 years of age, with her college degree and her experience of teaching Jr. High School Spanish, no one blinked an eye (except those who thought I was crazy thinking Juli could make it in this business, my previous two clients being Chasey Lain and Kaylan Nicole). But for us to represent an incredibly beautiful 19-year-old, she must somehow be brainwashed to seek a career as a XXX performer, probably by our office.

I have news for y’all: That girl with the erect penis inserted into her rectum on the cover of the movie, that’s somebody’s daughter. That girl smiling through what appears to be quarts of semen on her face, she had a father too. Even the girl with the “fashion-model” pose and the airbrushing on the cover of the XXX movie, she’s somebody’s daughter as well. If we’re approving of the industry as a concept, and we wouldn’t be here if we weren’t, why does it matter what path the performer traveled along to get to the XXX door and decide she wants to step through it?

Anais for RisqueIs Juli Ashton “OK” in our world because she wanted to have some fun, see the world, and make some money along the way, but Anais not because she wants to make some money, have fun, and see the world? The company owner with the 16-year-old daughter I mentioned earlier covered extremely well, by the way. He paused and reflected on my probing question. After a few minutes of quiet thought he said, “Well, I would hope that my daughter would have enough options that she wouldn’t find herself in a position to need to raise a daughter on her own at 19 years of age with no high school diploma, but if she decided this is what she wanted to do, I wouldn’t love her any less, and I wouldn’t consider her less of a person. She’d still be welcome in my home.”

The prime benefit of having limited options has to be that the “choice” becomes greatly simplified. Shouldn’t we, as managers, and members, and fans, try to support these performers as best we can once they’ve made the choice, rather than criticize them for making it, or worse needing to make it, in the first place?

I asked one member of our “commune” if she had called her father to wish him a happy day. She replied, “I don’t have anything to say to him. I sent him an email so he’d know I didn’t forget.”

That’s sad, folks. Anais has two parents that love her and try to take care of her. One was recently laid off for “economic cutbacks” and the other was injured on the job and is trying to wade through that bureaucratic mess. Meanwhile the baby keeps getting hungry, and the soon-to-be ex-husband has (once again) seen the error of his ways and promises not to hit mom again. Right.

Of course it has been very easy for me to sit here and pontificate. I’ve had a great many options in my life. One choice I didn’t have, however, was the ability to make hundreds of thousands of dollars a year just by letting people look at me naked and film me doing things that every adult in the world does at home anyway. Who knows what I’d have chosen then, graduate degrees and all? One thing I have learned over the 2+ score years of my life: Success remains the best revenge.
