| 3/29/26 |  Now that spring has sprung, and all the clocks around the world have irritated us globally because we lost an hour of sleep, it seemed like maybe it was time to take a break and talk about the movie that changed the trajectory of our entire organization. While Essentially Juli was in fact essentially about Juli Ashton and her fantasy life, it also had a great deal of reality about it — real reality, not the fake kind on tv today. I remember the first time a producer called me to come pick up a script for a “reality” show one of the Risqué stars had landed. Totally blew up my world, like Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny both reared back together and kicked me in the butt. Not sure I have recovered yet, to be honest, but looking back today helped a lot. Similarly, then, when taken with our Kylie Ireland example, you will understand that OUR “Erin Go, Brah” means something completely different, even though we really like the country of Ireland. Apparently the members’ party story the other day raised a lot of questions via email about Kristal’s “visitor” to the event. Given the comfort and, well, visual appeal of this guest, we understand how eyebrows raised and curiosity piqued. Rather than answer a slew of emails individually, we decided to just dig up the introductory piece we did around that time explaining the history and the thoughts at the time. As a general principle, the more a movie budget decreases, the amount of cleverness required to make something memorable increases. If you throw a bunch of money at something, of course, that will not necessarily make it a hit — or even interesting — but at least you can get first-rate special effects and explode a bunch of stuff to distract people. Perhaps non-intuitively, adult movies tend to follow the same rules as all the other movies (well, except the stars need to be willing to do much more with each other than just kiss). Still, we have lots of cleverness in our world, as evidenced by an update we’re calling Spin on Me in our vernacular.
