Michael Ninn's Catherine

Ninn’s Catherine, The Unique

DAY TWO

We arrived bright and early the next morning, about five minutes before Director Ninn. Justine and Audrey were already in their makeup chairs, and the Production Manager was getting breakfast ready for the hungry cast and crew (and one minion). PA’s were sent for coffee (Very important!), fruit, and “Danishes and shit.” Remember, we were at the top of a huge hill. It wasn’t like they were just going around the corner to a local grocery store!

Other PA’s were sent to a specialty makeup store for white makeup for 18th Century Catherine. (Apparently that was the rage in those days.) [We had not won the “19th Century Costumes” plan of attack yet as you can see.]

I hung out in the garage-turned-makeup/wardrobe room and talked with Audrey and Justine.

Audrey was extremely excited about the upcoming fight scene between herself and uh, herself! (Actually herself and Justine, and then herself in 18th Century garb. I was a bit confused about it, but Audrey wasn’t!) After their sex scene the night before, Audrey knew that Justine could take aggression, so knew the fight would be a good one! [And if you’re going to kill yourself, it seems like a good idea to have someone around who can actually end up dead after the event. That way if you change your mind it’s easier to get out of the contract.]

I didn’t know Audrey very well, so as she was getting made up I asked her some of my patented interview questions. Here is what I learned.

Audrey’s favorite condiment is ketchup. [Probably because it matches her hair.]

Her favorite punctuation mark is an exclamation mark because it’s exciting and there’s usually good news before it. [Probably it does NOT remind her of Nick Manning’s penis, though.]

She doesn’t use a computer so doesn’t have a favorite font. [Probably they had fonts even before they had computers, but we didn’t see any reason to confuse Audrey when she had a suicide to plan.]

Even More Risque:  Risque Times Gone By

Audrey has a turtle tattoo on her leg. She met Otto in South Beach and he was getting an old tattoo of his covered. She went with him, had something akin to sympathy pain for him, so she decided to get a tattoo also. Audrey liked the turtle picture she saw in the shop, so decided to have it inked onto her body. She’s spontaneous like that! Audrey also has a butterfly tat on her stomach, which basically resulted from peer pressure in high school. She’s an artist and likes to draw and paint butterflies, so chose a Lepidoptera, to decorate her tummy. [Well, I guess it’s good she didn’t like to sketch mountain peaks or something.]

I’d already quizzed Justine about her favorite condiment, etc., so today we talked about Harry Potter. Justine is mad about his stories and has read them all several times. She said school nurses have noticed “Hogwart’s Headaches” in children who read the giant tomes. They read the books around the clock, not getting enough sleep and straining their eyes. (I guess I need to read some Harry Potter, although I don’t need the headaches. I’m pretty much out of the mainstream loop.) [Right. From where she sits the “mainstream loop” looks like a straight line; we couldn’t swear that DM can even see a bend in it.]

One of the PA’s showed me the special bag he takes to sets. It’s the size of a backpack, but has a seat in it. (Handy when shooting in warehouses without seating and mansions where they don’t allow people to sit on the furniture.) The bag also has a special pocket so he can keep his own supply of food inside. When he showed it to us we noticed he had a stash of Red Bull. That’s like cocaine on a porn set! The days begin early and end late, and Red Bull is a necessity! We told him if he noticed some missing he’d know who had taken it! [Can you tell that DM has never actually taken cocaine? This is a VERY good thing, by the way, because she is in fact a little scary “on” just Red Bull.]
