Now that the Christmas season can officially begin, despite what Southern California retailers have been thinking since before Halloween, we’re taking a moment to appreciate the time of year for its emphasis on retrospect. Words like “tradition,” and “history,” and other such creche phrases (sorry, Lon) bring about a peacefulness, and a comfort with one’s place in the cosmos. Were that not so we would never have the nerve to draw attention to what a half-decade in Risqué evolution has meant. Each of us represents the sum total of our experiences, and the people with whom we’ve come in contact. Were it not for everything that happened in our past, none of us would be in precisely this position today. So we’re showing off a good bit of our past, and hoping sincerely you forgive us our graphic transgressions of the day. (Honestly, some of the graphics are down-right ugly.) If you do nothing else, take a look at what Nikita can draw with a trackball; these were some extraordinary women in wonderful times. We’ve just decided to stop trying to make any sense of what we do. After putting together what in retrospect turns out to have been one of our largest single posts ever, we noticed that as a technical matter, this subject rests at best tangentially related to us. Still, when people catch our eye (our experienced and critical eye, actually), it seems worth note. Consequently, we created “A Stormy Brewing on the Horizon” and put it up for you. Hey, Stormy’s funny, and y’all know that’s our favorite characteristic around here. Sexy, willing to get naked, and funny: You’re a shoo-in for accolades. And it’s honestly nice to see success for a woman in the industry who’s not a “twig with tits” as some more crude than any of us here would be. We’re never crude. Really. Swear.

So here’s the gig: There are 160 pictures, two video files, and more $5 words than you run across in a typical New Yorker Magazine article. None of this justifies our interest, of course, but it does lead us to one of our favorite excuses: “Hey, it seemed like a good idea at the time.” By the way, we have a special VIP member with us now. Contrary to popular belief, the most powerful person on the planet is not the President of the United States. The President has “checks and balances” and a whole bunch of folks that look over each and every decision, mostly trying to see what personal benefit they can get, but looking nonetheless. The most powerful person in the world is the cable guy. With almost no verifiable supervision, this person (and we admit “guy” may be “girl” ) determines whether or not your Internet business can actually connect to the Internet. They have evolved the “blank stare” into an art form; they can utter the simple phrase, “Hmmm” with devastating accuracy and result. They control our lives, and we can’t vote them out of office; you can’t really even talk to them without developing a nervous tick in your left eye. Dang. We say all this because FINALLY we can get back to work — four modems, two routers, no less than seven “service calls,” and 42 hours later — but who’s really counting?
