There just seems to be something nice about a holiday not yet overtaken by the greeting card — or worse now, eCard — industry. You just feel good getting out and planting a tree, or picking up trash, or whatever, giving a gift “outside” your circle and immediate family. Giving something to hundreds or thousands of people that you will never, ever meet simply seems good, and we all need something to feel good about these days. More realistically, if the pandemic forces us to change the date next year, we have a whole lot weightier problems than figuring out when we get our refunds back. So there’s that. To borrow a term from both economics and biological science, that will definitely qualify as an unmitigated bummer. Of course when one illustrates with Mia Malkova it does tend to distract from really dull concepts like amortization of fixed assets. Mia does, however, possess some excellent assets.
