12/12/06	You know how we always say that truth is stranger than fiction? Consider this, and we promise that it’s true. … We were riding in a new SUV that one of the Risqué ladies happened to have picked up recently, and we couldn’t help but noticing a vast collection of “sticky notes” plastered on the dash. “I just love this new car,” the fair lass bubbled, “that little plastic screen is the perfect place to put directions for places I’m going.” … Honestly we waited as long as we could before pointing out that she was in fact using “sticky notes with directions” to cover up the vehicle GPS system. … Sometimes in life it’s best just to sit back and enjoy it. And that’s what we figured to do today as we immerse ourselves in Chris Hall’s pictures on the set of Aperture. Real photographers are fun to visit sometimes, but we must be honest and point out that Chris forgot to get any pictures of domestic animals or guys on ladders. 5/28/05	It’s Memorial Day Weekend, as most of the US folks know, and we’re celebrating. True, most Americans likely can’t even remember what we’re supposed to be memorializing (as anyone that’s ever seen “Jaywalking” on The Tonight Show can attest), but a very few people might recall that some people have spent millions of dollars, and some rather more important people have died, giving us the chance to carve our little free niche in the world. So grill some beef. Eat some hotdogs. Play frisbee with your dog. … And try not to be too upset with the fact that banks are closed on Monday. At least most of you don’t have to go to work, after all. Oh, and if you’ve got the time, you might check out D.Minion’s Risqué Retrospective. Nobody died, and not even any animals were harmed, in this little synopsis of time. But, gee, ain’t it funny how time slips away? 5/27/05	The Porn Industry hasn’t quite figured out the deceptively important concept of picking a title with care. We tend to name things with what they ARE, rather than what they’re ABOUT. Of course many would say that’s simply because the adult “movies” are exactly what they are about, but those people are still wearing trenchcoats and looking for cheap thrills from a hole in the wall if you ask me. 6/30/05	You know what? We haven’t been talking about Dee enough. For awhile we just thought these uncomfortable feelings were just from the long hours at Ninn Worx, or trying to get a deep understanding of really sexy subjects like “video compression techniques” or something. We even gave the “must have had some bad seafood” theory a brief visit, but then we realized that unless it comes wrapped in paper, we haven’t eaten it lately. Then we saw Dee at LA Erotica and we realized the obvious truth of the matter: We haven’t been talking about Dee enough. You know, you can spend time with your head buried in codec geekdom, on machines that cost many thousands of dollars, and you still miss the simple stuff. 6/27/05	Conventions and Events pretty much describe the modern working world in America. No matter what you do for a living, there’s almost certainly a convention somewhere (every year) that brings all of you like-minded people together … probably to talk amongst yourselves about how hideous it is to try to do what you do for a living. … well … We have those also. And we also have those Events that really, really want to be in this “essential” catagory, so that they might make a bunch of money off of all of us too. Consider LA Erotica. Now the people that attend this paticular convention are much more interesting than the folks that pay money to display their wares, as it were, but it’s still a rather fun place to hang out for a bit. We’re pretty sure Bert can make this up to DM with copious beers at the Members’ Party in a couple of weeks, and we’re also pretty sure the rest of the members will thank Bert. Look at it this way: You’ll get to see Olivia eventually, and Anais is truly a feast for the eyes (and possibly some other stuff). If you’ve been a member for very long, you know that we tend to be fairly optimistic around here, and pretty much live with the philosophy of “playing the cards you’re dealt.” Juli’s quote, however, says that ever-so-much more eloquently: “Of all the things that might have happened, only one of them actually did.” Cool, huh? 8/19/03	Honesty would actually prevent us from claiming that ALL of the Risqué clients over the years have turned out to be far along on the “human sanity” scale, but, hey, retrospect is for whiners anyway. So on a day when we received a phone call to tell us of the supposed lengthy incarceration ahead for one former client, we happen upon a little story from May of 2001 that focuses on a different one. However, while we’ll confess to not always picking the most rational, or even ethical, of clients EVERY time, we can say one thing with complete candor: Some may turn out to be wacky, but darned if they aren’t all beautiful. We’re glad we ran across this, and we hope you enjoy it too. It’s a wonder we can find anything at all around here sometimes. Then again, I lose my shoes at least once a day.
