5/28/05	It’s Memorial Day Weekend, as most of the US folks know, and we’re celebrating. True, most Americans likely can’t even remember what we’re supposed to be memorializing (as anyone that’s ever seen “Jaywalking” on The Tonight Show can attest), but a very few people might recall that some people have spent millions of dollars, and some rather more important people have died, giving us the chance to carve our little free niche in the world. So grill some beef. Eat some hotdogs. Play frisbee with your dog. … And try not to be too upset with the fact that banks are closed on Monday. At least most of you don’t have to go to work, after all. Oh, and if you’ve got the time, you might check out D.Minion’s Risqué Retrospective. Nobody died, and not even any animals were harmed, in this little synopsis of time. But, gee, ain’t it funny how time slips away? 5/27/05	The Porn Industry hasn’t quite figured out the deceptively important concept of picking a title with care. We tend to name things with what they ARE, rather than what they’re ABOUT. Of course many would say that’s simply because the adult “movies” are exactly what they are about, but those people are still wearing trenchcoats and looking for cheap thrills from a hole in the wall if you ask me. Fortunately, no one asks me much, and so I can spend my time enjoying Dee Directing once again. Also, I don’t blame her for the title. You can now enjoy her too. 5/25/05	Over the years we’ve come to understand that it’s always preferable to wake up with a beautiful woman. 5/20/05	So you meet a new person, and you’re still in the getting to know each other stage, right? Well somebody new on the Risqué periphery was describing a friend of hers. “She’s a real Right-Winger,” says the strange new person (who gets stranger by the minute sometimes), “but she’s a closet liberal, because she has gay friends, and even a Jewish one.” Good Grief: One step forward. Two steps back. Eeek! … Aside from the patently offensive implications here, we also saw a dandy opportunity to introduce Night Calls from March of 2005, since we love irony in all of its many forms. You see, this particular Night Calls episode, besides featuring the usual Juli Ashton and Tiffany Granath raucousness, had a group of beautiful female boxers as their guests, and if I ever knew two women that needed a punch in the mouth … well, you just heard from them on the periphery. 5/16/05	“Sometimes it’s sweetness and light here in Porn Valley, but sometimes things don’t work out exactly as planned. 5/13/05	I got fired from my job last week, and I was pretty upset about it. 6/30/05	You know what? We haven’t been talking about Dee enough. For awhile we just thought these uncomfortable feelings were just from the long hours at Ninn Worx, or trying to get a deep understanding of really sexy subjects like “video compression techniques” or something. We even gave the “must have had some bad seafood” theory a brief visit, but then we realized that unless it comes wrapped in paper, we haven’t eaten it lately. Then we saw Dee at LA Erotica and we realized the obvious truth of the matter: We haven’t been talking about Dee enough. You know, you can spend time with your head buried in codec geekdom, on machines that cost many thousands of dollars, and you still miss the simple stuff. 6/27/05	Conventions and Events pretty much describe the modern working world in America. No matter what you do for a living, there’s almost certainly a convention somewhere (every year) that brings all of you like-minded people together … probably to talk amongst yourselves about how hideous it is to try to do what you do for a living. … well … We have those also. And we also have those Events that really, really want to be in this “essential” catagory, so that they might make a bunch of money off of all of us too. Consider LA Erotica. Now the people that attend this paticular convention are much more interesting than the folks that pay money to display their wares, as it were, but it’s still a rather fun place to hang out for a bit. This year it cost $30 per person, per day, and that probably makes some accountant happy somewhere. We just went for the pretty girls. Sometimes simple is best. Not only does it bring us up to date on Juli’s wonderful television program, but it also serves on the eve of a special day for a very special friend. Some of you may know that a couple of Memorial Days back Playboy TV once played nothing but Juli Ashton and Essentially Juli for 24 hours straight. 4/30/05	We counted 17 separate references to old television theme songs in D.Minion’s story of Carol’s visit to Southern California. We’d actually worry about our sanity, but we’re much too crazy for this kind of deep introspection. Fortunately, the 125 photos from Michael Ninn (who didn’t even meet Carol, by the way) can make up for a lot of blatent silliness. She was on the set of The Devinn Lane Show, Part 3: Attack of the Divas a couple of years back, and she got to spend some time with Julia Ann, Dee, Lola and Devinn. (D.Minion should pay us for this job.) By the way, we should state for the record here that, although we haven’t always agreed with her “career” decisions, Devinn Lane has always been beautiful, innovative, daring, and extremely motivated. In short, Devinn Lane is a very good director. She also happens to be wearing one of my favortie shirts during this shoot. “I can only be nice to one person a day. Today is not your day. 4/20/05	Pretty much every day, everyone pretty much has to do something. So today we pretty much figured we’d just spend some time looking at Wanda Curtis. All in all, in our experience, this turns out to be pretty much of a fun thing to do, and so we’re encouraging you to do it too. I don’t know if any of you ever had the opportunity to see Wanda in person, but she looks like a drawing or something. When artists draw their idealized visions of the perfect female form, they generally look like Wanda, actually. If Barbie Dolls had a human incarnation, they would look like Wanda too. 4/15/05	In the movie business, a “side” is a small part of the script that the director intends to record on a particular day. Generally, when the “players” show up in their really groovy (or at least ego-gratifying) trailer room, some nameless person will have placed the sides in the room — most often directly upon the only horizontal seating area in said ego-gratifying room. The point, here, being that sometimes things don’t always turn out the way they “historically” should. In our ongoing efforts to convince Juli to release some of her “owned, albeit heretofore hidden,” footage of Essentially Inari, we’re providing a peek into the past lives of, not only Inari Vachs, but Dee, Kristal Summers, a very happily endowed man, a couple of genuinely nice women from Juli’s past, and even Juli herself. We call it “Old Irony-Sides” … but we’re like that. We would also like to point out that using words like “albeit” and “heretofore” should be at least a misdemeanor in any civilized country. 4/8/05	Well we’re still plowing through Tax Hell, which wouldn’t be as bad if you didn’t have to do it every year, we’re thinking. And as it turns out, although it really, really sucks to move with a broken leg right before Christmas, it’s even worse if you didn’t think about putting all of the various tax document areas from the office and warehouse in one box so you could find it easily when you needed it. (I don’t know why they were always in various places; that was not my job.) So we decided to make up for it with a Night Calls post from Juli and Tiffany’s February Show this year. This one turned out to be extra long, as it included the soon to be more famous Justine, along with a side trip to a Dee dance gig. We decided, “What the heck, let’s put a bunch of exclusive pictures of Anais up too. What, you want to spend more time on the Quicken Category and Transfer List?” Too many numbers in your life make you talk to yourself, you know.
